About me
I’m Dougal Syers BSc (Open).
I’m based under relatively dark skies in East Devon, UK and have been
fascinated by the wonders of the Universe from a very early stage.
I have spent many years exploring the night sky and studying subjects
ranging from astrophysics (how stars are born, live and die), Einsteins
Relativity theories and Spacetime, and quantum physics (the science behind
the tiny particles and the energy ‘packets’ that make up our Universe).
I’ve built my own telescopes and I learned to navigate my way around the
sky from an early age!
Other wonders of the Universe have also occupied me for many years
including our beautiful countryside and its wildlife and I’ve spent much of this
time teaching environmental science to school children.

Way
arching

gas

dying

dark,
clear
sky
with
no
street
lights,
security
lights
or
nearby
roads
with
car
headlights.
The
Moon
is
bright
and
needs
to
be
out
of
the
night
sky
too
if
possible.
The
phases
of
the
Moon
change
gradually
through
the
month
from
new
(dark
night
sky)
to
full
(brightest
all
night)
and
back
to
new
again.
You
can
find out the current phase of the Moon below, or the phase for any other date.
If
you
would
like
to
take
a
closer
look
at
our
nearest
celestial
neighbour
the
Moon,
the
best
time
to
look
at
it
with
a
telescope
on
one
of
our
stargazing
nights
is
near
to
half
moon,
although
it
can
also
look
rather
splendid
when
full
too!
